Hi there!
I'm Monica Bashaw, a Canadian registered dietitian and fellow jaw surgery warrior. I underwent double jaw surgery at the Montreal General Hospital on September 19th, 2019.

The official name of my surgery was Le Fort 1 osteotomy (2 piece) + bilateral saggital split osteotomy, or in other words... double jaw surgery. My orthodontist was the talented Dr. Michelle Kornbluth, my fantastic surgeon was Dr. Michel El-Hakim, and my surgeon's assistant was the lovely Sabrina.
After experiencing first-hand the difficulties of post-op eating and seeing WAY too many jaw surgery patients complaining of hunger, low energy, dehydration, constipation, etc. during their recovery process, I decided to create this website to answer the most common food/nutrition questions around jaw surgery.
Focusing on high calorie, nutritionally dense options in those first weeks post-op is SO important to optimize recovery. It's not easy, but you CAN'T wing it. You have to have a plan for eating after surgery. Thinking you're going to survive on broth, Jello, and ice cream alone is just not going to cut it unfortunately.

As you browse the blog posts on my website, I hope you pick up a couple of tips or some new meal and snack ideas that will make your recovery just that much easier.

Sending you healing and positive vibes wherever you are in your jaw surgery journey!
